Tainter Gate Trunnion Friction Testing

Slideshow

The resisting moment (friction) at the trunnion connections can be directly quantified by measuring forces in the primary strut members. Comparison of data from similar gates can help identify any outlying trunnion pins that may require rehabilitation.

  • Measure friction in both wet and dry conditions
  • Determine side-to-side variation between hoisting forces
  • Evaluate interference issues between gates and walls

Testing time for each gate is about one day with up to 48 channels, allowing evaluations to be completed at a relatively inexpensive cost.
